SWAT Team Deployed After Siblings Fight With Boat Paddle

An altercation between siblings resulted in a massive SWAT response this week in Seattle’s Beacon Hill neighborhood.

According to reports, police were alerted to the area after an unidentified male suspect hit his sister with a boat paddle following a lengthy dispute.

Upon arriving at the scene, police say the man refused to speak, causing a SWAT team to be deployed outside the home.

With tensions considerably hightened, SWAT officers spent several hours demanding the man surrender.

SWAT officers responded to the man’s silence with a raid on the residence, resulting in his arrest.

Reportedly, the suspect was eventually taken to the King County Jail for questioning.

After news of the incident became public, several critics of the increased militarization of law enforcement took to social media to voice their concern.

Radley Balko, Washington Post writer and author of “Rise of the Warrior Cop,” tweeted a Seattle crime blog detailing the incident.

“Man draws SWAT response after hitting sister with boat paddle” http://t.co/kBMEtwrLAd

— Radley Balko (@radleybalko) August 15, 2014

Others saw the response as justified, saying a potential domestic abuse situation warranted such a reaction from police.

@radleybalko The key is he was barricaded not the paddle. SPD policy, like others, probably requires swat because they are trained for this. — Walter Katz (@walterwkatz) August 15, 2014

Phil Mocek, a civil liberties advocate with the Seattle Privacy Coalition, pointed to a recent interview with Seattle Police Department spokesman Sean Whitcomb, where it was alleged that police would only use SWAT teams with armored vehicles for calls such as an active shooter.

“Its purpose, according to Whitcomb, is to get safely to and from places like active shooting scenes. SWAT deployment is ‘specific’ and ‘targeted,’” the interview in The Stranger Newspaper stated. “That is something that would only be brought out in situations where it’s required… like a campus shooting or a mall shooting…”

While the situation very well may have required a heavy response, police use of military equipment is coming under increased scrutiny, especially in light of the recent news in Ferguson, MO., where peaceful protesters and journalists were brutally attacked by heavily armored SWAT teams.

According to a recent ACLU investigation entitled “War Comes Home: The Excessive Militarization of American Policing,” the federal government has given more than $4.3 billion worth of military hardware to law enforcement agencies during the last two decades, with more $450 million worth in 2013 alone.

An increase in military equipment has also brought an increase in SWAT raids. Once reserved for active shooters and hostage situations, militarized raids are now even used on organic farmers.

The debate over what a proper police response is to an assortment of situations will undoubtedly continue as the issue receives increased interest from the public.

Ferguson Cops Once Falsely Imprisoned Innocent Man, Beat Him, Charged Him For Bleeding On Uniforms

Thumbnail for 12054

The true nature of the police department of Ferguson, Missouri is under heavy investigation by the masses of conscious people. Thumbnail credit: thedailybeast.com

These conscious people are currently accelerating the paradigm shift to extremely significant proportions, and so in relevance to the massive nationwide protests, this piece of info was uncovered from 4 years ago;

The Ferguson Police Department once beat an innocent man named Henry Davis, an African American welder, and charged him with destruction of property for bleeding on the violent officer’s uniform, according to a lawsuit filed by the victim.

Davis was misidentified as a man with a warrant who had the same first and last name as him, on September 20th 2009, and he was put in jail.

When he asked for another sleeping mat in the jail where he was momentarily incarcerated for no reason, a cop brought a gang of other cops into his cell, told them Davis was being belligerent, and they proceeded to slam him up against a wall and be violent enough to make his blood spill .

Charging this completely innocent man with destruction of property for involuntarily bleeding on a cop’s uniform is unspeakably absurd and malicious.

Davis attempted to sue the city of Ferguson in a civil case, which he later lost. His charges, however, were dropped. Police were ordered to provide surveillance footage, but they claimed it was improperly recorded and couldn’t produce it. You can see the legal documents here.

Please share this with absolutely as many people as possible. This is one more piece of evidence to add to your case against the Ferguson Police Department, and all abusive police in America.

Pesticides Used In New York City Parks Deemed Unsafe

Live Free Staff | The Rundown Live

Parents in New York are hesitant to allow their children to play in public parks after a study conducted in April indicates that the pesticides used to combat rat infestation can cause cancer.

The study shows that the active ingredients glyphosate and indane, are positively associated with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). NHL is a cancer which affects the immune system. Image credited to Wikimedia.org.

In addition to glyphosate, the active ingredient in RoundUp, the study also found that:

“Random effects meta-analyses showed that phenoxy herbicides, carbamate insecticides, organophosphorus insecticides and the active ingredient lindane, an organochlorine insecticide, were positively associated with NHL.”

The New York City Parks Department justifies using the pesticide to rid the parks of rat infestation. Their methods of using pesticides to spray the weeds that house the rats prompts the need to spray the New York City parks 1,365 times in 2013. That number indicates a 22 percent increase from 2012 to 2013. Experts suggest that other than the workers applying these pesticides, children are at the greatest risk of exposure to the harmful chemicals. The state’s Department of Environmental Control claims that:

“Their bodies have not yet reached developmental maturity. This means that they are more vulnerable to the toxic effects of many pesticides and other chemicals. Behaviors of young children, such as putting things in their mouths and crawling on the floor, put them at additional risk from pesticide exposure.”

Representatives of Monsanto, the pesticide giant, suggest that there’s nothing to fear with regards to the chemical; claiming that because the pesticides do not contain carcinogens then they do not cause cancer. Monsanto company spokeswoman Charla Lord stated that their product roundup:

“does not cause cancer, mutagenic effects, nervous system effects, immune system effects, endocrine disruption, birth defects or reproductive problems”

Many citizens are concerned and claim that the 24 hour warning signs posted before and after the chemical is applied is not enough. Some are seeking for a 72 hour block off of the recreational areas while others are against the use of pesticides all together. What do you think should be done about these pesticides?

List Of Military Equipment Used By Local Police From The 1033 Program

Kristan T Harris | The Rundown Live

In Ferguson, a suburb of St Louis, peaceful protestors and media where fired upon by militarized police. The government has been giving local police Military equipment from battlefields across the world. Here is a list of current proven equipment used. In 2013 alone, $449,309,003.71 worth of property was transferred to law enforcement,” the agency’s website states.

Missouri police participating in the 1033 program have received -”aircraft (both fixed wing and rotary) and four-wheel drive vehicles (such as pickup trucks, blazers, ambulances and armored personnel carriers),according to the state’s Department of Public Safety.

The motto of the 1033 program is “From Warfighter to Crimefighter.”

But now even colleges are acquiring these vehicles such as Ohio State University.

Lets take a look at what military equipment the local police are acquiring from the 1033 program.

The LRAD (Long Range Acoustic Device) was used for the first time in the USA in Pittsburgh during the time of G20 summit on September 24-25th, 2009. It is designed to pierce your ears and strike terror among its recipients.
m16_8Muckrock, Wisconsin Police received 160 fully automatic M-16 machine guns.

The Milwaukee Police Department has upgraded using the 1033 program to an advanced spying system known as “Stingray”. Stingray is a suitcase-sized device that masquerades as a cell tower to deceive cellphones into connecting to it allowing the police to download all your conversations and texts. A violation of your 4th amendment right. Hailstorm Technology, like Stingray, can download cell phone conversations and texts from local users. The ‘HailStorm’ is a device obtained by Police through the 1033 Program. There isn’t much information available on what exactly it can and cannot do.

Massachusetts police agency obtained grenade launchers through federal 1033 program.

MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicles are armored war vehicles used by various armed forces, whose designed purpose is surviving improvised explosive device. The government is givng away 13,000 of these to patrol American streets.

St Louis Police where quick to use a military medical vehicle as a offensive unit during the Ferguson riots. The Lenco BearCat is a armored personnel carrier designed for military evacuation.

The M113 is a military vehicle manufactured by BAE Systems. Dubbed “The Tank” by locals, is really a type of APC (Armored personal carrier) armed with a primary weapon of at most a 20mm autocannon before falling into the infantry fighting vehicle sub-classification, and will most likely be outfitted with one or more machine guns ranging from 5.56mm to 7.62mm.

The Sheriff in Rock County, Wisconsin, purchased one of these with a bearcat instead up upgrading out of date handguns.

4720-chicopdarmored-ot64The GTK Boxer is another form of APC (Armored personal carrier). The Military equipment has a multirole purpose designed to accomplish a number of operations through the use of different installable add ons. It could be a offensiv evehicle, or it could be a defensive vehicle. It is created and designed by the ARTEC GmbH (ARmoured vehicle TEChnology)

Police in Cobb County, Georgia, now have an amphibious tank. The sheriff of Richland County, S.C., proudly acquired a machine-gun-equipped armored personnel carrier that he nicknamedThe Peacemaker.” Business Insider Reports.

Once upon a time you where a conspiracy theorist for conjuring up a belief in Drones. Now you can expect everything from business’s to local law enforcement to be equipped with these units. These will come taser ready and with 3D inferred mapping so do not expect privacy, even in your own home.

Black Panthers Take Over Ferguson Fire Department, Saying Obama Is From Kenya

Kristan T. Harris | The Rundown Live

The leader of the New Black Panthers, Hashim Nzinga, and a group of members over run a press conference at the Ferguson Fire Department on Thursday hosted by Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson.

Nzinga used this opportunity to attack president Obama calling him a “Mau Mau” and touting Obama is from Kenya. Hashim said Barrack needs “to go back to his roots and stop people from killing Africans in the streets.”.

“This is a shame that as we speak the president of United States is talking to Russia, he’s talking to China, he’s talking to North Korea, he’s talking to Iraq and the Middle East about treating their people better,” he said. “But as he look out the window at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, he’s watching the black man, who built the White House, shot down like dogs.”

Off-Duty Cop Arrested On Suspicion Of DUI, Firing Handgun Out Window

Mikael Thalen | The Rundown Live

Police in Saraland, Alabama arrested an off-duty officer this week after receiving several disturbing reports from local residents.

Saraland Police were called out to I-65 just after 2 a.m. last Sunday to confront a driver who was reportedly firing a handgun out his vehicle window.

Upon approaching the vehicle, officers discovered the suspect to be 30-year-old Franky Buck, a law enforcement officer with the Mount Vernon Police Department.

Officers say they immediately noticed a strong alcohol odor emanating from Buck’s vehicle.

Although Buck reportedly admitted to being in possession of his service weapon at the time, no mention was made as to whether he admitted to firing the weapon from his vehicle.

Officers discovered several spent shell casings inside the vehicle shortly after.

After failing a field sobriety test, officers asked Buck to submit to a breathalyser test. Per protocol, Buck’s driver license was immediately suspended following his refusal.

Saraland natives took to social media to voice their disgust for the incident.

“He’ll be let off the hook because that’s just how our country is,” one man said. “If you have a badge, the law doesn’t apply to you. Sad really.”

Others refuted the notion, applauding the arresting officers for doing their job.

“That’s not true or he wouldn’t have been arrested,” another man said. “It’s guys like that that give police a bad name.”

“Saraland police would arrest, ticket or raid they’re own family members.” another said. “They don’t play.”

Storyleak was unable to reach the Saraland Police Department to determine Buck’s specific charges.

VIDEO: SWAT Raids Home Of Innocent Elderly Woman, Lawsuit Pending

Thumbnail for 10739

Cecil Iscool | The Rundown Live

Video has recently been released of a SWAT raid on the home of a Evansville, Indiana woman.

Louise Milan, 68, was at home with her 18 year old adopted daughter when Evansville SWAT crashed through her front door on June 21, 2012.

Police were searching for an individual they said had been going online and directing threats towards Evansville officers. As it turns out the Milan household had an open wireless Internet connection, and the threatening posts were not made from inside Louise’s address. Both Ms. Milan and her daughter’s computers were seized in the raid. No evidence was found against them.

Derrick Murray, a local gang leader, was later arrested by the FBI for the posts. Murray lived with his mother just down the street from Milan. He later admitted to federal prosecutors that he posted the threats via his smartphone. Unknown to Milan, Murray was connecting to her wireless router to gain access to the internet. The router connection was not protected by password.

Ms. Milan is now suing the city of Evansville. Police Chief Billy Bolin and all 11 members of the SWAT team who preformed the raid are also listed as defendants.

The lawsuit states,

“The officers smashed Milan’s WINDOW and storm door and threw in two flash-bang grenades that created property damage in addition to the destroyed window and storm door. The officers used flash-bang grenades despite the fact that [there] were no threatening suspects visible. Milan and her daughter were ordered on to the floor at gunpoint, handcuffed and paraded in front of their neighbors into police vehicles. Both were detained and questioned by the officers.”

It is worth noting that the SWAT team was serving a search warrant, not an arrest warrant.

One of the SWAT officers was wearing a body camera at the time of the raid, which caught the entire incident on film. The city said it decided to release the video to illustrate how professional and respectful the officers were toward the Milans.

Scroll down to watch the video and decide for yourself.

The city of Evansville is seeking a ‘favorable judgement’ in the case being brought against officers who they believe acted within the law.

According to the Evansville Currier & Press,

City attorneys Keith Vonderahe and Robert Burkart argued in the motion that police are protected by the legal principle of qualified immunity. In it, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that “government officials performing discretionary functions generally are shielded from liability for civil damages” as long as their conduct does not “clearly” violate established “statutory or constitutional rights.”

Do you think these officers’ actions violated constitutional rights?
