X-Files 2016 Exposes the Non-Fictional Police State in a Jaw Dropping 3 Minute Clip

Matt Agorist | FreeThoughtProject

Launching its new series last month, the X-Files was an immediate hit with the premier drawing more than 20 million viewers, plus another 1.1 million streaming on Hulu and FoxNow.

But how many of those 21 million viewers actually grasped what was talked about in the episode that premiered on Jan 24th?

In an eye-opening 3 minutes, that was broadcasted to millions, the X-Files exposed the chilling reality that is the police state control grid and the surveillance state.

The X-Files writers, while mixing in alien and weather control theories, are unafraid to bring up the very real notion of perpetual war, the surveillance state, the PATRIOT Act, the NDAA, and the horrid police state created by these measures.

During the segment, the speaker even explains how the police have been militarized as a means to control.

“A government that taps your phone, collects your data, and monitors your whereabouts…with impunity. A government can use that data against you when it strikes, and a final takeover begins.”

Whether or not that takeover has begun or when it will begin, is arguable. However, the government tapping your phone, collecting your data, and monitoring your every move — is here and now — and it is most assuredly being used against you.

Intel Chief Confirms Our Worst Nightmares: Home Smart Devices Are Ideal for Spying on You

By The Rundown Live

Household-spying

Claire Bernish | ANTIMEDIA

Internet-connected smart devices in your home will make it the more easy to spy on people, says intel chief James Clapper.

United States — Director of National Intelligence James Clapper stated to the Senate Armed Services Committee that the Internet of Things (IoT) — so-called “smart” devices, vehicles, and appliances which employ various computer technologies — may be used to spy and keep tabs on people in the future.

“In the future, intelligence services might use the IoT for identification, surveillance, monitoring, location tracking, and targeting for recruitment, or to gain access to networks or user credentials,” Clapper’s prepared testimony claimed.

Though his remarks were ostensibly, and not surprisingly, directed toward the fight against ‘terrorism,’ the potential implications for all civilians cannot be ignored — particularly considering the IoT comprises everything from smart cars and fitness tracking devices to televisions and Barbie dolls. Clapper warns the threat from Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, and such non-state actors as ISIL and al-Qaeda. can be expected in the form of cyber attacks, gathering information about individuals, and even psy-ops, which make the IoT vulnerable to malicious intent — and ideal for U.S. intelligence-gathering purposes.

“Future cyber operations will almost certainly include an increased emphasis on changing or manipulating data to compromise its integrity (i.e., accuracy and reliability) … Broader adoption of IoT devices and AI [artificial intelligence] — in settings such as public utilities and health care — will only exacerbate these potential effects,” said Clapper.

No matter the possible veracity in concerns of National Intelligence, the agency’s desire to thwart terrorism with an exponential increase in surveillance should be disquieting to all civilians wishing to maintain a modicum of privacy. As researchers with the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard warned in their recent report, Don’t Panic:

“The Internet of Things promises a new frontier for networking objects, machines, and environments in ways that we [are] just beginning to understand. When, say, a television has a microphone and a network connection, and is reprogrammable by its vendor, it could be used to listen in to one side of a telephone conversation taking place in its room — no matter how encrypted the telephone service itself might be. These forces are on a trajectory towards a future with more opportunities for surveillance.”

In fact, the IoT has presented a veritable gold mine for the surveillance community. Former CIA Director David Petraeus, as pointed out by the Guardian, discussed the enormous potential for spying found in common appliances and devices in 2012.

“Items of interest will be located, identified, monitored, and remotely controlled through technologies such as radio-frequency identification, sensor networks, tiny embedded servers, and energy harvesters — all connected to the next-generation internet using abundant, low-cost, and high-power computing, the latter now going to cloud computing, in many areas greater and greater supercomputing, and, ultimately, heading to quantum computing,” Petraeus said, according to Wired.

Nest is a home automation producer of programmable, self-learning, sensor-driven, Wi-Fi-enabled thermostats, smoke detectors, and other security systems. It’s also one of the devices can be used to spy on people in their homes.

Clapper’s testimony carefully constructs a potential legal justification for expanding surveillance via, say, your dishwasher, in his assertion that homegrown violent extremists — who have now earned an acronym, HVEs — present the greatest looming threat inside the United States. According to his remarks:

“U.S.-based HVEs will probably continue to pose the most significant Sunni terrorist threat to the U.S. homeland in 2016. The perceived success of attacks by HVEs in Europe and North America, such as those in Chattanooga and San Bernardino, might motivate others to replicate opportunistic attacks with little or no warning, diminishing our ability to detect terrorist operational planning and readiness.”

With terrorists, foreign actors, and the U.S. intelligence community eager to take command in varying degrees through the Internet of Things, including smart phones, smart homes, smart cars, smart fridges, smart toys, and even smart toothbrushes, the choice to designate such devices “smart” should perhaps be revisited.

How Smart Devices Could Take Out Power Grid: Hack “Air Conditioners Turn On/Off Repeatedly”

By The Rundown Live

Mac Slavo | SHTFPlan

“You shouldn’t be able to do this.” But you can. It may be one of the most dangerous flaws in technology to date.

It seems that the smart devices in store for the future under a smart grid pose some pretty serious security flaws – and could pose a risk to your life.

A number of hackers have pointed out how unencrypted, remote thermostat devices could be manipulated to attack a single home/business, an entire neighborhood, or even the entire country.

Worse, the industry is pumping out hundreds of new connected smart appliances that could leave security vulnerabilities in the homes of every American.

According to Wired Magazine:

A hacker could cut air conditioners during a heatwave—creating a potentially fatal condition for the elderly and sick—or turn air conditioners on during peak energy periods, causing a surge that creates a widespread blackout. Or a hacker could directly attack a group of specific homes or offices by taking advantage of the fact that unique IDs are assigned to groups of devices, allowing them to be singled out.

According to another researcher, the hack could be even worse. If an attacker were to turn the air conditioners on and off repeatedly, the could create disturbances and imbalances in the grid that could trip breakers beyond the neighborhood they’re targeting and cause an even more widespread blackout.

“This is bad, and that’s why we need better security so that we don’t have the ability to manipulate the load,” says Eric Johansson, founder of Management Doctors, a security firm in Sweden that specializes in SCADA. “You shouldn’t be able to do this.”

The attack against the devices requires little skill. All a hacker would need is to be on the same radio frequency as the utility company, and then they could monitor and record the commands the company sends to the devices (a technique known as sniffing). From there, they could just play back those recorded commands to other devices to get them to turn on or off (a so-called “replay” attack).

And there are many other issues with the technology, as experts who talked to Wired note.

Hackers brought up the issue to urge the need for encryption and protection with relatively-open “smart” devices that have been increasingly phased into home appliance use.

Many homes have now given their power company permission to adjust their thermostat remotely, while others have implemented consumer devices to control the temperature remotely while members of the household are at work or away from home.

But at the heart of the issue is the open door for saboteurs that could bring society to its knees.

On top of the threat of an EMP attack, harsh weather and terrorism, the manipulation of air conditioners and other smart appliances pose a viable risk to devastating grid down scenario.

In the worst case, a prolonged, widespread power outage – that includes damage to generators and relay stations system wide – could leave hundreds of millions without power and on the verge of life and death – as desperate people in cities would almost certainly riot, loot and kill each other for remaining resources, while others could die from exposure to extreme cold or heat without power and utilities.

Experts have predicted that 90% of the population would die if the grid went down and took 6 months or longer to restore.

As it stands, most sprawling urban areas are mere days away from chaos at any given point – once people get hungry and upset.

Now they know they need to fix it, but will they?

For now, the threat is mostly hypothetical, though a cyber attack has been considered a threat for years now. But it is yet another reason to prepare for all eventualities, especially surviving comfortably without electricity for prolonged periods of time.

Such a scenario will bring enormous pressure to bear on the rest of society – but that doesn’t have to include you.

Report: “All Cannabis Use is Medicinal” Whether You Know it Or Not

By TheRundownLive

Justin Gardner | FreeThoughtProject

In the past two years, we have witnessed a sea of change in the attitude of Americans toward cannabis. Colorado made history by becoming the first state to completely decriminalize possession and use of the plant, with Washington and other states soon following.

Medical cannabis use is now legal in 23 states, and others will soon be joining that list. Polls find that a solid majority of Americans support cannabis legalization, especially for medicinal use. The Free Thought Project has reported on many incredible ways that cannabis is being used to treat a variety of ailments. Its effectiveness at reducing or eliminating epileptic seizures is nothing short of amazing.

People are also realizing that the war on cannabis—and all drugs for that matter—is a war on people carried out by law enforcement to restrict freedom and to extort millions of dollars for victimless behavior. The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) gains a sizable amount of revenue through cannabis seizures. The dried plant also provides ample opportunity for local law enforcement to carry out its favorite, most insidious form of extortion known as Civil Asset Forfeiture.

The good news is that these abuses of human rights are being exposed, and law enforcement is sounding ever more desperate as justification for their actions withers under the advance of reason and logic. When cannabis is finally decriminalized everywhere, our evolution from the days of Reefer Madness will provide an entertaining yet tragic documentary.

The fight continues, and we must build on the momentum if we are to see it to completion. The arguments for legalization are many, and they are sound. But perhaps the entire narrative needs to be reconsidered as we make the final push.

Daniel Macris, owner of Halycon Organics, suggests that the very idea of “recreational use” is flawed, and actually hampers the progress toward legalization.

““Recreational cannabis use” is the most detrimental phrase our industry faces today.

Over half the U.S. population supports “recreational use” of cannabis. Unfortunately, those whose don’t support recreational use, oppose it vitriolically. “Recreational cannabis” is exactly what the opposition is fighting to prevent.

The flip side to this is that over 80% of Americans support medical cannabis use and over 85% support freedom in healthcare decisions. All of these statistics are trending upwards.

In the South, “recreational cannabis use” is a non-starter and a debate that cannot be empirically won. On the other hand, “medical cannabis use” is a debate we win. And we don’t need to manipulate our messaging to change the debate, we need only to correctly identify ‘medicinal use.’”

The basis for this argument lies in our increasing understanding of a part of human physiology known as the endocannabinoid system, which is turning out to be vital to many life-supporting processes.

In 2006, the National Institutes of Health reported:

“The recent identification of cannabinoid receptors and their endogenous lipid ligands has triggered an exponential growth of studies exploring the endocannabinoid system and its regulatory functions in health and disease…

In the past decade, the endocannabinoid system has been implicated in a growing number of physiological functions, both in the central and peripheral nervous systems and in peripheral organs. More importantly, modulating the activity of the endocannabinoid system turned out to hold therapeutic promise in a wide range of disparate diseases and pathological conditions, ranging from mood and anxiety disorders, movement disorders such as Parkinson’s and Huntington’s disease, neuropathic pain, multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injury, to cancer, atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, stroke, hypertension, glaucoma, obesity/metabolic syndrome, and osteoporosis, to name just a few.”

We have seen an explosion of studies looking at the medicinal use of cannabis and its extracts, and they center on “modulating the activity of the endocannabinoid system” as described above. With modern technology, we are discovering the mechanics of something known to the ancients—cannabis is a medicine. People have used it this way for thousands of years.

We can now extract even non-psychoactive components of cannabis, such as cannabidiol, to successfully treat debilitating conditions such as epileptic seizures. We can find out which phytocannabinoids are the most beneficial to specific diseases, and figure out exactly how much of the extract is needed for best results.

Scientific knowledge will validate what many cannabis users already know—the plant can provide relief from certain ailments and stimulate some of the best human qualities such as creativity and empathy.

Macris has interviewed several people and found they use cannabis for conditions that would otherwise be treated with pharmaceutical drugs in the current paradigm.

“It makes me relax,” “It helps me sleep,” “It calms me down,” “It helps me think,” “It helps my stomach calm down,” and it “It helps me talk to people,” are some of the ways people have said cannabis helps them.

All of these conditions—anxiety, sleep disorder, ADHD, inflamed bowels, and social anxiety—are targeted by pharmaceutical companies that vigorously advertise their manufactured pills with government complicity.

“Recreational cannabis users are using cannabis for medical purposes, they just don’t realize it,” says Macris.

When someone says they are a “recreational user,” they should consider saying “therapeutic user.” This will be far more effective in the push to completely decriminalize cannabis, as “recreational” implies that it can be abused on the level of alcohol or other drugs. Government may insist on keeping the distinction, as they can tax “recreational” use much more than medical use.

In any case, we can garner much more support from fellow citizens when legalization efforts are rightfully carried under the banner of medical use.

Careful With Those Anti-Corruption Tweets: Twitter Launches Orwellian ‘Council’ to Curb Dissent

By TheRundownLive

Claire Bernish | FreeThoughtProject

Twitter announced it will be joining in the pro-censorship campaigns currently sweeping social media under the familiar guise defenders of liberty and free speech love to hate: terrorism.

Twitter’s version of the Thought Police, however, sounds somehow even more Orwellian than the original: The Trust & Safety Council — which will, unsurprisingly, “work to develop policies censoring speech on the site,” as the Washington Examiner described.

“To ensure people can continue to express themselves freely and safely on Twitter, we must provide more tools and policies,” the social media’s statement paradoxically begins. “With hundreds of millions of Tweets sent per day, the volume of content on Twitter is massive, which makes it extraordinarily complex to strike the right balance between fighting abuse and speaking truth to power.”

President Obama has called on social media sites to join the fight against terrorism, which essentially translates into a censorship push. And as with any push for censorship, though the premise might be rooted in laudable intent, the reality almost always ends in a clamp down on those who choose to voice less popular opinions — and, if allowed to continue without careful oversight, eventually ensnares almost all dissenting views.

Worse still, the practice of employing the community-at-large as its own watchdog creates a pervasive atmosphere in which individuals self-censor — one of the more insidious ways free speech can be curbed.

While Twitter’s explanation of the Trust & Safety Council appears warm and all-inclusive, its language presents evidence of a seriously slippery slope, stating certain groups maintain an “acute to need prevent abuse, harassment, and bullying” among other issues.

One of the Council’s inaugural members is the Dangerous Speech Project — whose website arguably sounds more frightening to free speech advocates than the subject matter it purports to do battle with.

“Inflammatory public speech rises steadily before outbreaks of mass violence, suggesting that it is a precursor of, or even a prerequisite for violence,” states the uncited and unverifiable homepage. “In many cases, a few influential figures turn their own people against another group, using speech that has a special capacity to inspire violence: Dangerous Speech.” Further, it states, “Violence may be prevented by diminishing such speech …”

Though Twitter certainly has every right to dictate its own policy for speech or anything else it deems necessary, this group Thought Police Council is nonetheless indicative of the disturbing trend toward making censorship acceptable in myriad forms. It’s not as if a single group or person has infallible judgment for determining what is worthy of being removed from a public platform, after all.

Two pertinent quotes from Orwell, himself, come to mind in this situation. First, “If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.”

Second, and more imperatively still, “If large numbers of people believe in freedom of speech, there will be freedom of speech, even if the law forbids it. But if public opinion is sluggish, inconvenient minorities will be persecuted, even if laws exist to protect them.”

As always, we would be wise to heed Orwell’s sharp portent.

“It’s Time!!!!” Cliven Bundy Arrested As FBI Closes In On Malheur Holdouts

By The Rundown Live

Thumbnail for 251883

Mac Slavo | SHTFPlan

Note: This situation is ongoing, and updates to this post are likely as further news breaks.

The Feds are now everywhere surrounding the Malheur Wildlife Refuge. It appears that the final, and potentially tragic, act of the standoff is underway.

Things are coming a head for the four final holdouts inside the building has hosted an occupation against federal land claims for now more than a month.

Hopefully things will remain peaceful. But there is every chance that sparks could fly instead.

CLIVEN BUNDY ARRESTED BEFORE ARRIVING AT MALHEUR:

Cliven Bundy, father Ammon and Ryan Bundy who were arrested for their role in leading the Oregon standoff, was en route to the Malheur Wildlife Refuge along with Nevada State Assembly member Michele Fiore to negotiate the peaceful surrender of the four left inside – who agreed to walkout and surrender with Bundy and Fiore there.

Cliven Bundy also called for patriots and militia to join him over the last several hours, issuing a statement on Facebook:

But now, Cliven Bundy was arrested at the Portland airport just hours ago on “conspiracy and weapons charges“, making the resolution of the situation uncertain:

Nevada state Assembly member Michele Fiore, a Republican supportive of the protesters, identified herself over the broadcast as she talked with the occupiers via telephone. She said she was in Portland waiting for an FBI escort to Malheur, roughly 300 miles (480 km) to the southeast, in order to help broker a peaceful resolution to the standoff.

[…]

[Bundy attorney Mike Arnold stated] “I’m sort of in frustrated disbelief right now that there’s someone in the federal government right now who thought it was a good idea to arrest Cliven Bundy while (Nevada State Rep.) Michele Fiore was negotiating for the stand down at the refuge.”

“If Cliven Bundy can get arrested peacefully without force or violence, then the four remaining at the refuge can feel confident they can walk out unharmed,” [Arnold] said.

FEDERAL AGENTS SURROUND THE REFUGE COMPOUND, FORCING A FINISH:

Meanwhile, it appears that the FBI and other affiliated agencies have strategized their own resolution to the situation, and are moving in agents up to the point of the barriers, positioning snipers and readying crowd control resources.

Unofficially, a martial law atmosphere has descended upon the Eastern Oregon area.

via Reuters:

Federal agents on Wednesday closed in on the last four anti-government militants still holed up at a national wildlife refuge in Oregon after a 40-day armed occupation …

[…]

The FBI said the latest confrontation began after one of the protesters was seen riding an all-terrain vehicle […] outside the barricades previously set up by the self-styled militia members at the refuge.

FBI agents attempted to approach the driver, and he sped away back to the compound, after which federal agents “moved to contain the remaining occupiers by placing agents at barricades both immediately ahead of and behind” their encampment, the FBI said.

[…]

The militants said FBI agents had moved to within 50 yards (45 meters) of the occupiers’ position in the compound, and one reported seeing FBI snipers on a nearby hillside with high-beam vehicle lights trained on the compound.

“If they tear gas us, it’s the same as firing on us,” said one of the occupiers, who identified herself as Sandy Anderson. “Don’t come in. Don’t do it.” […] “We’re not leaving without our weapons.”

The Feds are portraying their actions as a peaceful, but necessary means to force the situation to a conclusion.

In reality, it is an skittish move that could make someone jumpy or trigger happy, and federal agents proved prone to violence in apprehended LaVoy Finicum and the others traveling with him.

By arresting Bundy, the FBI may have been trying to avert further conflict with the people, but may have conversely set themselves up for a Waco/Ruby Ride finale.

None of this provocative behavior is in the interests of patriots protesting federal land grabs. For their part, the incendiary video statement by Sean Anderson – who called for people to shoot FBI and law enforcement and who is still holed up inside – did not encourage a straightforward surrender:

According to Reuters:

Until Wednesday, FBI and police had largely kept their distance from the buildings occupied by the militants….

“However, we reached a point where it became necessary to take action” to ensure everyone’s safety, Greg Bretzing, special agent in charge of the FBI in Oregon, said in a statement.

For now Sean Anderson, Sandy Anderson, David Fry and Jeff Banta are the four who remain inside Malheur.

They have claimed they would surrender peacefully on Thursday, but that was before Cliven Bundy’s arrest.

.@VoteFiore is now back on the live stream. Sean Anderson says they’re going to turn themselves in tomorrow morning. #Oregonstandoff

Numerous supporters have come to the scene outside of road blocks and staging by federal and state law enforcement agencies. The stage is set for a bloody conclusion; let’s pray that this is not what happens. This reporter has been tweeting out updates from the area as they happen:

Tweets by @amandapeacher

Not much is visible from the blockade except the lights from the FBI base. There’s a dense fog hovering over the valley. Spooky.
