  1. joe stevens says:

too many firearm nuts. seem to have this mistaken believe that a gun is the end all to be all answer to everything there is in life.
My grandfather was a missionary in the Phillippine islands. for many yrs Living the outbreak as they did along side them. He was able to learn from them, the things they did, for day to day survival.
At the outbreak of world war two, When the Japs invaded the islands. my grandfather survived by hiding in the jungles, of the island. He took with him only three items, his bible, a navy blue jacket manual, and a pocket sized reference book, full of handy conversion charts, and reverence tables. useful to engineers and carpenters a like. Surviving the war with out a firearm, or weapon of any kind.
He was considered, by the natives to be one of their own. He was able to use his knowledge, and good relationship of natives, To fight help fight the Japs, By linking up with the U.S. Navy, and acting as a go between the navy and the natives.
My grandfather always taught that, knowledge is power. Learn as much as you can, about a wide variety subjects. because you never know what bit of knowledge may come in handy in a survival situation.
people that believe that firearms are the end all to be all answer, to every thing there is in life, are wrong.
The gun culture people need to realize, that some ground must be given. There are laws and regulations, and even the second amendment must be changed. in order to get back in touch with modern times.
the second amendment is not the right for citizens to have firearms. that is of the biggest misquoted amendments in the constitution. What the second amendment really is, a right for a community to form a armed mulishia. In order to give the communities a way of keeping the peace.
The second amendment was written at a time. When this country was largely not populated, communities where far apart, and few. the was no military to speak of and law enforcement was also non existent.
Now days this country has a effective military, and law enforcement. The second amendment really is obsolete, a milishia in it’s original form is no longer needed.
this countries population has greatly in creased and and in allot of areas become very dense. Along with it a vast increase in the crime rate.
Along with it a need for a change in firearm laws and regulations. to make it allot tougher. For the wrong people to get a hold of a firearm.
Right now it is far to easy for the wrong person to get a hold of gun, and far too many people. Getting a firearm with out getting any kind of training. That have no idea on the safe operation, of a firearm. giving arise to an increased amount of firearms accidents.
the ownership of a firearm in this country should be an earned privilege, and not a seemed birthright, Citizens should prove that they are responsible enough to own a firearm first. before being given the privilege of owning a firearm.
In many countries if you want to own a firearm, you must serve in the military first. In these countries the crime rate is significantly lower.

    • Agent 19 says:

First, I would like to set you straight on a few things.
Your grandfather did not fight the Japanese effectively if he was not armed as facing an enemy who is intent on killing you requires you to be of similar mindset if you are to survive.

It sounds to me like your grandfather chose to send others to fight while he stayed in the rear.

The Second Amendment does refer to the militia. However, the militia is not comprised of active duty military personnel, but of civilian volunteers.

How could you have an effective civilian militia if civilians were not granted the right to keep and bear arms?

Our revolution was won by civilian volunteers in the form of guerrillas and militia.

You are stating that we should re write the United States Constitution because you are fearful of firearms.

You are fearful of an inanimate object.

      And, that’s not our problem.

If you and others feel that we should re write the United States Constitution, You cannot be surprised when those of us who value our rights tell you that there’s nothing stopping you from moving somewhere that has the regulation you seek.

I am not going to give up my rights guaranteed to me under the United States Constitution because you cannot master your fear.

      Good day to you, sir.

  2. Mark Thompson says:

    Joe,

There is so much anti American in your comment. The idea that your personal fears and opinions are grounds to change the documents our country was constructed around is profoundly narrow minded. You sir are so overcome by fears that you are willing to strip braver men and women of their right to choose for themselves.

The facts about gun violence in America prove that the most restrictive gun laws in our history produced the most violent times. As we as a nation allow our citizens to arm themselves as they seem fit crime is reduced with the balance of power.

Before I comment on the second amendment I first want to clarify the purpose of the Constitution itself. A common misunderstanding is that the Constitution is for the people, it is not. The Constitution is directions for the Federal Government. In the early days of our nation no federal army existed. Our nation was defended by every citizen in the form of militia under control of the Governors. It wasn’t until President Adams that Congress formed the Army of the United States.

Agent 19 is absolutely correct in his reading of the 2nd Amendment. The Constitution was amended because even in the early days of our country some people wanted all the power to reside at the capitol. Without a rifle behind every blade of grass we too would be open to military coup much like Thailand has now. The second is the only safeguard for the people from tyranny.

Lastly, the idea that laws can prevent crime is childish. Laws punish crimes committed. Drugs, murder, assault, rape, theft, and treason are all illegal and still those things happen everyday.

    Thank you for your participation,

    Mark Thompson
    Host ACR
